Best Live Recordings; not best ever, I’m no judge, but some favorites:
Frankly…I’m not sure how many of these fit your criteria, though, Edlorah.
Deep Purple … Made in Japan I melted a few of these discs over the years, now my son is melting one … & damn near melted his [fellow percussionist &] music director’s ears when he asked him to sit and listen to The Mule in it’s entirety. {In poignant tradin’ eights fashion) his music director lent him Gene Krupa & Buddy Rich: Compact Jazz in apt/grinning “old school” response.
Roger Waters The Wall Live in Berlin. Hey, Potsdamer Fcking Platz (in the words of Bob Geldof, “Where history stopped to shidt.”), & then eventually got a much needed enema. Monumental project, all due respects to Mr. Waters & collective; …anything less is just such bullschidt.
Pearl Jam San Diego bootleg (10-25-00). Many of these bootlegs are rockin’ but EV’s interaction with the audience, so fckd-up an audience to come home to, makes this an exceedingly memorable platter. The heart wrenching genuineness therein. Pearl Jam Mansfield, Massachusetts bootleg (7-11-03) for the sheer volume of splendid music.
Band of Gypsies … Jimi Hendrix. Here’s another one that has spanned the generations; my son carries this disc, my umpteen year old copy, around with him. I got him Axis: Bold As Love for his birthday, & he digs it…but he’s hung-up on Band of Gypsies.
Live Rust, Neil Young; although the vinyl, which I don’t own but know somebody who does, is more pure, as with many LPs; …fackin’ corporate shenanigans.
Weld, Neil Young … simply put: I sat transfixed while Neil Young played a set @ The Concerts for Walden Woods…like he was in his living room with a fireplace & a bottle of amber spirits, a hookah still lingering blue smoke beside three banjos and a no shidt live moose just sitting there on a hemp rug, chillin’, starin’ out the window at the snow collecting on treetops in some out of the way Canadian winter’s clearing at dusk.
For an aging cat to stalk out onto a stage…, where everybody was playin’ their standards (even RogerW., who would have blown me entirely away if he had played some Bleeding Hearts Band tunes), & unapologetically play better than an hour of previously unheard music to a packed house of teenyboppers & big ticket holding “glitterati” & some just plain pure fans of the rock & roll guitar songwriter; …well, he’s been ol’ Uncle Neil to me ever since. This album could be on a loop, piped-in from the heavens, as a soundtrack to existence, & that’d be just peachy.
Live @ Carnegie Hall, Stevie Ray Vaughan: …Lenny…live w/family & friends…
wink-wink, nod-nod, …say no more….
& I have not yet tired of NFU Live @ Steamboat
new music acquisition goal:
midnight oil … oils on the water / import live recording
find it, get it, spin it
