She asked him to draw a picture for her, and he rode his bike back to show her his drawing, but by then,  it was too late....he saw the ambulances, and the TV crews...

Then he watched it on the news, and called me.  We talked...he said - 'she'll never see my picture...'

I said 'The guy who did this was hurt, and didn't know how to show it.  He hurt her family and his family and you and me too..But that same family will remember her time with you.  That picture is now for them and all of us - even the guy who did this'..

I wish I'd added, 'It doesn't matter what it looks like'.  He's a tough, willful, little fella of few words, my son.
