Care to define "cartel" for the purposes of the discussion? OPEC? The ex-Standard Oils? PDVSA? Pemex? Gazprom & Sibur?
I would strongly dispute that the technology is really there for "liberation" from oil at this point. However, the tools are in place to move significantly away from our current dependence, and that would be something worth investing further in.
