Yes, some protest slogans did / do go overboard. The problem is that the war mongers think that the protesters are a bumch of hippie peacenicks who just don't wanna hurt nobody when in fact they actually just don't see this as good strategic move for the good of our nation ( or others ). This administration is trying to break down the very fabric of what America stands for by setting a new bad example for the rest of the world. Preemption has never been a part of our code of ethics and for good reason. As soon as the president tried to wrestle the ability to declare war away from congress this should have thrown up a red flag to anyone who believes in our constitution.
We need to choose our battles at a time when we are already at war with an unseen enemy, Saddam needs to be addressed but not as a knee jerk reaction to an attack on our soil from another source. With our economy in a very shakey stance it is not strategic to tie up our troupes while the real imminent threat is gathering and plotting with no resistance from us because, we can't find them.
A strategic attack on our soil while we are busy in Iraq could possibly push our economy over the edge that it currently teeters on.
Think about this: While our president is trying to convince the world that Iraq has ties to Bin Laden, Bin Laden pops up and implies just that, thus giving the president that extra little push he needs.
Does this make sense ? Bin laden wants us to attack Iraq. Why? Because he knows we are trashing our standing in the international community and that makes things a bit easier on the recruitment front not to mention that our guard will be diminished here at home.
This action is an elective surgery and it is just a stupid time to elect to schedule it.
