I'm really kind of surprised that DBIS'ers haven't posted more about
James Brown's passing. For me, and for lots of others, his art
encompasses far more than his shoddy and drug-addled later life. Lots of great artists, living past their prime productive years,
become caricatures of themselves- Keith Richards being a prime
example. But that doesn't- and shouldn't- take away a bit of the
genius of their early work.
When one of the architects of modern music passes on it seems to
me that it would elicit some sort of response from a board
dedicated to music in general and to an artist in particular-
Baerwald- who also encompasses originality and a unique vision
and style. Are DBIS'ers too young or just too white to appreciate JB's
contribution to modern music and art?
