These two are coming to DVD this month:Straight Time - Probably Dustin Hoffman's best performance. Eddie Bunker wrote it and I think most people here know who he is. Gritty, down and dirty, beautiful 70's cinema. Hoffman really was amazing in the 70's. Check out his run of films from that time frame: Little Big Man, Straw Dogs, Papillon, Lenny, Marathon Man, All the Presidents Men, and of course this film. He ended the 60's as Ratso Rizzo too. Now guys like Hoffman and DeNiro seem to be doing almost all comedy. Prince of the City - Sidney Lumet...do I really need to say anything else? This is an epic cop drama based on the book by Robert Daley. Nobody does this kind of film like Mr. Lumet. Remember Serpico? Q & A was another great Lumet directed cop story, the guy just nails this stuff.
and since you brought up Paper Moon (love this film) here's one from Peter Bogdanovich almost nobody has seen:Saint Jack - Shot on location in Singapore this a fantasic little film. Ben Gazzara was born to play this part. If you've never seen this go track it down.
