You're right it was something different for him but I think the film would have been better with somebody like Robert Duvall. There were some funny parts but it was like he just emerged from a coma. Just didn't work for me.
I did like the bit where he was writing wacky letters to his sponsored child, that had me laughing. I used that to play a joke on my wife. She does this thing called Women for Women where she sponsors women from third world countries. I took one of the envelopes from that and wrote this insane letter to my wife from the woman she was sponsoring...I mean I made it wacky as all hell...glued it closed and left it in the mailbox for her. When she read it she didn't know what to think and I heard her calling her friends reading it to them on the phone. I was laughing so hard I was in tears. She finally came to me and asked me to read it and I said "This woman is insane! What kind of program have you got yourself involved in?"
Eventually she figured out it was me...the letter was just too nutty and I'm kinda known for stunts like that...and she came after me for it...
