Thanks for this well-thought-out post. I agree with you that China's Olympic gambit is likely to backfire, if for no other reason than Olympic athletes and their coaches not wanting to expose themselves to the unfathomably high levels of air pollution. And I think that those unfathomably high levels of air pollution will actually have the effect of demonstrating to the world the ill-effects of unregulated industry.
