Yes, Ed and Herring are not alone.
The song that David wrote that plays in my head the most is Nobody. I think Stranger was a great piece of writing and I love that song but I think I try not to let it play in my head because it is a painful song and I spent a good deal of time hanging out with Vietnam vets and there is some very sad stuff that song takes me back to. The other two songs I hear in my head a lot are Compassion and A Prisoner's Dream. I think Compassion is about as perfect a song for our times as it gets in so many ways. It's short and poppy (we like short and poppy these days and not just in our songs) with a sing-a-long chorus but it has a depth and bite that the normal pop song does not have. I'm flat out stunned this song was not picked up on by more people. Maybe not as a big fat hit but crank this song up while you flip through the tv channels and wow, instant video...and I mean a real good video that brings the right kind of sting...not the bleached blonde Policeman but maybe the bimbo behind the news desk. If we lived in a world with a better sense of humor this song would be the lead in to every newscast. That's why it plays in my head so much.A Prisoner's Dream is just another beautiful piece of writing and in a way I think a companion piece to Stranger that causes me less pain and again works in a very timely fashion to highlight the absurdity of current events.
