hard to argue with the lyrical genius of 'lampshades and soap' (cause, c'mon, everyone loves The Holocaust™), but for me it'd have to be

China Lake; the brooding confusion of it. the atmospheric keyboard soundscape, that main strumming with the odd little notes thrown in here and there (and especially the reverbed electric hits on the fade out)...the 'close to the mic' deep baritone moments of the vocal track...and 'these are strange, uncertain days', perfect for those times where it's all so quietly overwhelming that surrender to the suchness of it all is the only possible option. fuck yeah that tune kills.

the other one i always go back to is Paddy. you get artillery noises, some nice strong coffee, and one of the greatest banjo pickin' sessions ever. plus, it's somehow kinda hopeful ('one of these days i'm gonna hit that thing...')

yep.
