That’s a good one, E.
Funny you should mention PBR. Must’ve been a common thing at the time (for me @ 16 around ’80). Other than the sips of Genesee my Uncle Jerry used to slip me every now & then when he was good & lit (at grandma’s house for the bimonthly Michigan Rummy game the adults played), my first real enjoyment of a good cold beer was Pabst Blue Ribbon as well. Upon getting off the regional transport bus after football practice (when I had enough coin) a pal & I would hit the Saah Superette (the owner was eventually closed-down for selling beer to minors) for quarts of PBR. Then we’d walk the mile & a half home through the alley behind the neighborhood. I don’t think anything was more refreshing…& buzz-worthy than being fatigued after double-sessions…walking home in the late afternoon sun…tippin back that brown-paper bag wrapped quart of PBR.
