Steve, Just make sure the commuting costs to and from Long Island aren't going to add up to something just as much as if you paid a bit more and stayed within subway range. From LI, you can only use the LIRR commuter rail or drive - and gas and parking will give you apoplexy. Even look at Harlem -there are some B&Bs up there. Harlem is no longer a scary place for the most part.
