Melody Gardot is a New Yorker - a jazz-artist of some recognition in especially France. Her style is similar to Norah Jones.
Lars Muhl is danish yes and now retired to be a new age self-development writer ;-) But he has penned a lot of extremely catchy pop-songs some of which have traveled very far in the international charts with other artists than himself (the one I mentioned among them - If it sounds familiar just know that this is the original...). Here he is at Roskilde in 1991:
As for Sorten Muld (Literally means Black/Dark Mulch/Soil) - They still exists, but in a low key sort of way because most of the members have a "normal" life outside their music hobby ;-) But they pop-up a couple of times a year and do a concert to huge acclaim. And yes they have been at Roskilde ;-)
Here is a quote from an english review:"Denmark's Sorten Muld (which means 'Black Earth') has reconstructed Nordic folk tunes into techno and house music. The concept might seem odd, but the result is electronic music with emotional resonance. A lot of that is due to Ulla Bendixen, whose vocal timbre ranges from billowy, fragile whispers to primeval-sounding wails. The group's predominant sound is electronic, which is not surprising from a trio whose job titles are listed as 'sound designer' and 'architect.' The album, which won two Danish Grammys, is dark and moody, sometimes reminiscent of the noir-ish pop of Roxy Music. Guest musicians add flavors from all over, including a Swedish nyckelharpa keyed fiddle, an Irish bodhran drum and a turntable-scratching DJ.Each track has a fundamental, sustained rhythm, but only a few have the warp-drive to qualify as dancefloor fodder. One standout, 'Ravnen,' begins with a lone Jew's harp, but quickly kicks in with an infectious, pumping dance beat and a B-52's-like crying chorus. Despite the band's Danish passports, its music sounds like it could be in a strobe-lit dance club anywhere in the world. "If you like them then check out Hedningarna (swedish/finnish, but similar in style):, Valravn or Virelai both danish.Concerts with these kind of folk-electronica band can get pretty wild :-) - There you really see our viking ancestors... But they mostly play at traditional folk-festivals which is kinda weird...Keep asking if there is more you wanna know...
