I read Simon's book Homicide first and when the show came on it was amazing how well they cast the characters in the show to the people in the book. It's like Simon wrote the characters for each actor in the television show.
On top of that, they captured exactly the bullshit cops talk about when going about their day to day business.
That show was excellent until they did the last movie to close it out.
