I was working in a lumber yard at the time, it was a small yard specializing in laminated beams, so I was the only yard man, so I was able to listen to the radio all day and as loud as I wanted. I liked WTTB from the first time I heard the song, caught the little write up on D&D in the front section of Rolling Stone (which I used to read religiously) and owing not a little to the fact that I share the same name, I bought the tape; it immediately became an all-time favorite, the songs on that tape came dangerously close to paralleling many aspects of my life and my relationship at the time, which ended with her leaving me with a broken heart, that maybe still isn't completely mended. WTTB, the song, reminds me of living in Stockton, CA, trying to hold on to the illusion of moving forward in life, SBTC, I always play when I feel like quitting and running away, Ain't So Easy and Alone Together, of course are reminders of the constant fights with Vickie and making up. Well to make a lifelong story a little shorter, I bought a CD player in 1992 or 3 and of course the first CD I was going to buy was WTTB and came across Bedtime Stories (both of which are my faves ahead of Triage, and I listen to Bedtime Stories more than anything else by DB, I have most of his offerings) I didn't know about Triage until I came across this site in 1996 or 1997, it took several months of searching used record store bins to find it, but I did . . .
Another note, speaking of DB's music maybe it would be interesting to hear what DB lyric quotes touch us, I personally have always liked, the last verse of SBTC,
"maybe it ain't over, i can see it's up to me,
you're only out when you stay out, you stay out when you don't
believe, we could drive around in circles getting nowhere
all night long, getting drunk with strangers, telling lies ,
and singing along with the jukebox, baby"
Also, I've been listening to Zevon's The Wind, the last couple of days and dig the whole CD, obviously Knockin' on Heaven's Door and Keep Me In Your Heart, but I like Disorder in the House (I'm a huge Sprinsteen fan): I also like Please Stay and Rub Me Raw . . .
