Holy shit, Reg, that focus group is terrifying. As heathcliffe has written, a life of watching, and not reading, results in shockingly ignorant people.
I'm watching a French series called A French Village. It's set in a German-occupied French village, 1940 - 45. It shows how sweeping and ugly the occupation was. It shows people at their best and at their worst. I still can't fathom how a nation of culture and education, like Germany, descended so fully into barbarism. I know, anti-semitism was taught by the church, and amplified by politicians and bigots, and yes, they were demoralized after WW1, and hyper inflation was crushing, but damn! And we have a breeding ground here where likeminded citizens would gladly embrace similar roles in occupied blue states.
