Q, like the thousands of other "deities" who have come and gone, offer their followers an identity, a community, a path to blindly follow, and a very strong sense that they're doing truly important work in the world. By and large, these are decent people who want to lead meaningful lives. 

Here's an apt Sam Harris quote: " My concern with religion is that it allows us by the millions to believe what only lunatics or idiots could believe on their own. "
