Sadly Peter this is a long haul, because it requires some fundamental changes to AT LEAST two things:
1. Your educational system, which is generally rubbish and doesn't teach enough in STEM and social sciences etc. so people are able to understand statistics, critical thinking, history and what makes people do stuff.

2. Your media, which is largely based on commercialization and add revenue which is NOT conducive to anything but the lowest common denominator, sensationalism, idiocrazy, reality TV and the violence of the day.

Until this is fixed, then the president or whoever can show all the pie-charts and statistics you want, it will not be heard or even understood by any, but the choir being preached to...
