None of us could have scripted the past 7 years and expected to be taken seriously, which is another way of saying that anything is possible with respect to some of these people at the top being in bed with some bad actors. What's in it for Carlson to have been regurgitating Putin's talking points? What was the Independence Day visit to Moscow by a handful of Republican senators and a congressional rep in 2018 about if it wasn't (as they stated) to stop Putin from meddling in future elections?

I tend to think tho that it has more to do with conservative media understanding that there's a lot of money to be made by stoking fear and resentment among their viewers—like you were saying, Reg, about the base needing their fix of conspiracy bullshit and whatnot. Could it be as simple as that? Or is it a combination of some clandestine stuff as well? Will we ever know?
