Icon Sick of it - ways to fix US House

Watching the Washington US House shit show yesterday was just so disgusting for many reasons.

For one thing, the way they vote is ridiculous and shows how broken the US House has become. I understand the importance of tradition and the like, but why those pricks don't go to an instant, electronic vote instead of a roll call vote is just one example of things that need to be changed.  I think we all know the real reasons why they still do this and it's not out of a need for "tradition," but instead for theatrics, ways to score points, and to allow arm twisting and persuasion.

Here are some things I think would improve the US House:

For one thing, we the people, are partly to blame for this crap by the myopic decision to vote purely based on an "R" or "D." We need to push such decisions more in the direction of representative effectiveness and productivity.  I mean, currently, there is a politician running for Speaker who in 16 years has not written ONE legislative bill.  Not one.  Many others do the same thing and too many most likely just like the lifestyle of being a US rep and instead act like pigs at a feeding trough.

One way to combat this would be to create a decently funded, bipartisan watchdog group consisting of well-respected politicians - current or retired - that would review the effectiveness and productivity of ALL US House members and rate them prior to elections.  But this panel MUST be of respected and capable people.  I think this would be perfect for a person like Mitt Romney (though many may dislike him, I believe of Republicans, people like him are the best hopes in getting a sincere Republican politician).

But in the end, people just have to get beyond the "R" and "D" and as a people, we need to demand that the US House is forced to truly do the people's business and force light upon the deadbeats and push them out of the House regardless if a D or R.
