Andi, I agree with you 100 percent.
When I was working patrol, women officers were my preference to work around because of their better skills - yes, it was somewhat reassuring to have a Hulk working around somewhere, but more often than not, with a female officer, the need for that Hulk dropped drastically.
Anyway, one of the best things to happen to me was back in 1993 while starting police training, I met this wonderful woman (a staunch feminist and liberal) who has grown to be my closest friend over all these years and she did a wonderful job enhancing my knowledge about many of the truly complex issues regarding gender, sexism and things sometimes out of my area or grasp.
On an even earlier note - back during the start of the Clinton presidency, there was one day a large group of us were in the day room prior to PT and they were doing a story on Clinton and gays in the military. About all the men started moaning and bitching and saying things like, "I don't want some fag staring at my crank in the shower!!" and so on. Then, the newscaster came on and it was this very well-known brunette with a good figure (she was the one that left and became a reserve sheriff's deputy), and all the sudden the comments that flew around were things like, "Oh, I want to see her tits" and other such comments.
After that, I blurted out - in an almost sarcastic way to mask disgust - how it was quite hypocritical of them to bitch about a gay man staring at their pecker and then turn around and declare how you want to do the same thing you didn't want them doing to you."
Sadly, if Harris does lose, as some are suggesting, it will be at the fault of white males and that disgusts me. She is more than capable and I'm growing to like her more and more each day.
Ps....I'd like to be able to watch that interview but I can't - that fucking Bret Baier makes me sick.
