And this example you gave David, illustrates exactly why resistance efforts this time around are totally different from what we did in Round 1. This round, we are being mentored in ways to throw sand in the gears while spending a great deal of our time keep people in our communities safe from fucking MAGAt assholes like the one at the diner.
"Our communities" are those minorities who we know are targets, our blue family, friends and neighbors who live around us. In Paulding, some of our bigger groups such as Progressive Book Club or Liberal Women of Paulding County are going to break down into smaller communities based on where people live and then within those smaller groups, people may divide up by their interests. For example, we'd like to see community gardens as well as individuals growing gardens so that the community would have vegetables if produce rots in the fields after immigrants are deported en masse. We are also talking about creating large first aid kits including reproductive health items that people who need that can continue to have access at least for a while no matter what Round 2 brings.
Other people in the communities will be looking political planning. Right now, for us, we just have City Council and Mayoral elections coming up in November 2025. We're not going to be knocking doors for those right now, BUT it is time to see who lives in the city limits and in which districts within the city to see if we have people where seats will be on the ballot. We need people to start going to the City Council meetings, AS WELL AS the county meetings where representatives will not be chosen until 2026.
Round 2 does not call for protests. At this point they will not get anything done AND trump has threatened in Round 1 to call out the military, as David noted, and have protestors shot. If that isn't scary enough, he also, at least at one point, said that he would arrest protestors and deport them, stripping citizens of their citizenship while doing that. That is some mother fucking messed up bull shit right there. But, that's also why we're working to just throw sand in the gears and slow things down as much as possible.
We've got 2 months to get some protections set in place and then buckle up because we're in for a ride. Four long years. We'll be here for each other, those of us who realize what this election result truly means for us...
