All this news about the good doctor reminds me of when I first moved to Maryland from out west back in 1989. I lived about 2 blocks from Ft. Detrick which is notorious for its history of developing ugly chemical weapons and such. I used to ride my bike up behind the fort to a pretty little area called yellow spring. This area bordered the fort and was the closest place where I could cruise up to the woods and hang out with my furry little buddies. The creek was pretty on the surface but was littered with all kinds of garbage and things that folks had dumped off the side of the road. Still it was good enough for my woods fix. One day I was cruising down the little road that goes along the creek when I noticed several asian women filling up milk jugs from a rusty pipe that came out of the side of the hill. I thought this to be odd since from what I had seen the water didn't appear to be very clean. I went back to town over the course of the next few days and talked to some of the locals about what I saw. They said that people had been coming to this spot for years to get some of the "healing" water. Folks with cancer and other ailments claimed this H2O could cure them. The more I thought about it I had to chuckle and think that perhaps the water contained low level radiation that was like a free chemo treatment. Hard to say, but kind of odd anyway.
I still live in the area, and though not as close to fort, I hear lots of stories about the work that has been done and is being done. Freaky stuff indeed.
