"You know Freud says a gun is an extension of your dick, Joe Bob." - From Peter Gent's "North Dallas Forty"
"If you want to see my penis, you'll have to fly to Britain. It does amuse me, the horrific violence that comes out of American cinema. But someone's cock is too much. If I'd blown away 5,000 people with a semiautomatic machine gun, that would be fine. But I showed my penis." - Ewan McGregor on the hypocrisy of the U.S. film ratings system because they cut a nude scene from his new film.
For the most part I think the NRA and most gun owners twist the second amendment to suit their own view. Dale, of course, has a point about how people will do this. The founding fathers wanted us to have guns so that we could defend our country and also, I think, allow us to hunt. I mean back then you had to hunt for food and it was a great option...so despite what Ted Nugent says I think it's easy enough to go to the grocery store for most of us. There really is no way that they could have envisioned where we are at today.
I don't own a gun...mainly because I really don't want the temptation to use it to be there. I really just don't want to shoot anybody...and I think under certain circumstances I would certainly, if provoked or angered, shoot someone. I think that having a gun available to you certainly raises the odds of you shooting somebody. I do believe that all male gun owners are trying to compensate for their small penis and probably deep seeded feelings of insecurity. Female gun owners well...I think we can certainly see their attraction.
I do believe people should have the right to purchase a gun if they so desire. That being said I know a lot of gun owners and to tell you the truth...I feel 95% of them should not be allowed to have a gun.
An example...One friend of mine recently had a fight with his wife. During the argument she basically said something to him along the lines of he was a worthless piece of shit. This upset him considerably...down to his basement he goes to fetch one of his pistols...he unloads it and checks to see if there's a shell in the chamber...once assured it's empty he heads back upstairs to the bedroom to find his wife...now he's drunk and trying to prove some twisted point with her because he feels she's being so nasty...so he walks into the bedroom and says to his wife "So, you think I'm a worthless piece of shit?"
She of course says "Yeah, I do."
He says "And all I do is bring misery to your life?"
"That's right." she says.
So he drops to his knees and puts the gun to his head and cocks it and says "Well, I can fix that right now if that's what you want!"
She screams and starts crying and runs out of the house. It took about three weeks but now she's returned home. Now aside from the boatload of other issues associated with that story, what I think is anyone that may behave that way should not under any circumstances have access to a weapon. So, how do you prevent that? All they do is a criminal background check to allow you to have a gun. I think what they should do is some heavy duty psychological profiling before they issue you an fid card. Some stuff just does not add up.
I've been around 36 years and so far have had no need of a gun to survive this lifetime. I think most of the time we're pretty safe...the media promotes fear and danger around us at all times and I think for a lot of gun owners that's left them frightened and insecure and feeling like they need some protection. I think if you own a gun you're also more likely to get shot. Maybe it's a karma thing but I think if you avoid them you're just more apt not to run into that sort of trouble.
It's sort of like the arms race...every country wants weapons of mass destruction because supposedly that will keep them safe from other countries who have them because then they won't use them on them because then they could use theirs...it's like the thought process of a five year old. If we all weren't so goddamn paranoid we could make the sane desicion not to have any. Would less guns out there mean less people getting shot...of course it would! I also think if all gun owners were required to recieve counseling and get profiled each year we may be a little safer.
I also think Hollywood should start making movies and shows with less violence and more sex. A lot more sex...and a lot more nudity...and allow all of it to be televised as well...that way all those wacky gun owners would stay home to see the nudity and sex on tv instead of roaming the streets armed and dangerous and waiting to be attacked so they can shoot someone finally.
Wacky stat of the day...
Somewhere around 35,000 to 40,000 people get shot and killed in America each year.
In Iraq only about 500 Americans have been killed. We haven't been there a year yet but we're working on it.
This stat shows Americans are safer in Iraq than in America. By the way, while we're discussing this, I think all of the founding fathers would want all the gun owners to take up their arms and head off to Iraq to defend our country. Or maybe they'd want them to take up arms to defend us against Bush. Either way I think they'd want all you gun owners to get up off you lazy asses and do something. 'Cause that's the kind of guys they were.
unarmed but still dangerous,
