Went to see Tift Merritt last night. Surprised by the size of her band (big - keyboards, steel guitar, lead guitar, bass, drums and her) and the lack of size of the vehicle (van pulling a small trailer). They were very good, the crowd was small, but she didn't let it faze her a bit. I wanted to stay and talk to her afterward, but after Frank Marino's asskicking the night before I had to go to bed.

There were about a dozen people in the back just yakking away the whole show, really loud. It took every bit of willpower I have to refrain from tossing a pitcher of ice water on their heads. I think what I'll do for next time is print out some signs that I can just hand to them without saying a word. I was thinking something along the lines of "this is a live music venue - lower your voices or ready yourself for turmoil". I cast a pretty large shadow (which is tough in a dark and smoky blues club) so it might just work. One of the fun things I can now enjoy that I don't drink is I can fuck with drunks all I want, cuz I know who the pi - sorry, police, will believe when they show up to sort it all out.
