I don't think that Bush has given his support to any particular piece of legislation so I'm not sure you can say he doesn't know what he's supporting.  He's stated that he would be in favor of a constitutional ban on gay marriage but the specifics of that amendment won't be known for some time.

I think it's disingenuous of the left to be calling the right bigots, racists, homophobes and gutless wonders when their own candidates also do not support gay marriage.

Bush has said he believes in civil union legislation but he doesn't support gay marriage.  I don't have a big problem with this thinking.  The unfair bashing of the righ gets a little tiring I must admit.
