If we're going to discuss three thousand years of the sanctity of marriage, let's actually discuss the history of marriage, women treated as chattel, arranged marriages, concubines, mistresses, polygamy, female mutilation, the prohibition of interacial marriages in this country up till 1967(yes those are all negatives and there are lots of positives, but I'm trying to express a point in my own stumbling way). In my opinion there is no pure sanctity of marriage, like all things human it has always been and still is, complicated, messy, full of good and bad, and ever evolving . . .
