When I was in the army I did a stint with the CID (Criminal Investigation Command) and from time to time a group of us would have to take turns playing front desk receptionist. We would sit behind this huge glass shield and take incoming calls and greet visitors. Being this was Fort Bragg, it was 8 hrs of hell. The phones never stopped ringing and visitors never stopped coming through the doors.
We would get people calling in not knowing their case numbers or what agent they were dealing with and at many times we would have to just give the name of the person over the PA system and hope the proper agent would call back to the front desk. One day a man calls in and says he needs to talk to the agent handling his case. I ask him who it is and he doesn't know. So I ask him his name and he says "Hunt." I ask him what his first name is and he says "Mike." I push the intercom button and go, "Would the agent handling the "Hunt" case call the front desk. Would the agent handling the "Mike Hunt" case call the front desk."
Of course the phone rings and someone tells me I've been had and all the agents upstairs were rolling around laughing their asses off.....
True story....I swear....the only good thing about it was that it happened on a Friday afternoon and most of the big bosses were gone.
