Gene,

You saw The Jam in their incarnation: all black suits and skinny ties, genuflecting to early Pete Townshend and Ray Davies. Not long thereafter they exploded musically and lyrically. A greatest hits CD, called "Compact Snap" will clearly demonstrate why they were gods in the UK. It was always said that they were too British for an American audience. I chalk it up to lack of airplay. They are one of the few great groups that I never saw (though I caught Paul Weller, also in Boston, a decade ago). Everyone MUST hear Going Underground, That's Entertainment, Town Called Malice, to truly appreciate this incendiary band. If they are not inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame than it can be safely assumed that Katherine Harris is in charge of vote tabulation. And I'm not even the greatest Jam fan on this board as Kevin in Az. is completely bonkers over them and their leader, Paul Weller.  So, you urinated next to Bruce Foxton, eh? Is is true what they say about bass players?
