The two issues that solves the Florida problem to me are those of the terrible design of the butterfly ballot and the illegal striking of black voters in Florida.

I know it is a "woulda, shoulda, coulda" thing about the butterfly ballot, but think of how it must have made all of those elderly Jewish voters feel when they learned they mistakenly voted for Pat Buchanan instead of Al Gore.  (And before anyone says, "Well, if you can't read a damn ballot right, then you should not be voting",  I ask, have a little compassion and think of all the troubles your elderly relatives have from time to time.)

So, the votes in these two areas clearly would have given Gore the Florida vote, regardless of what reports state about how the "recount" went.
