Thurlow character and his own Bronze Star that the media refused to question - he is now reported as saying that if the criteria for getting his Bronze Star was being under enemy fire, then he didn't deserve it, but what isn't asked is, if there wasn't enemy fire as Thurow claims, what is justification of a person getting a Bronze Star for aiding in the recovery of personnel from a boat after it hit a mine if no further jeopardy is involved in that recovery?
