Andrea,
Yes, I'm not pleased with the privatization talks. So far the people affected are those in smaller towers. Nobody is being terminated from the FAA because their towers are being privatized but they are being uprooted and moved to other facilities. Almost always they're moved into higher level, better paying positions than they came from. All too often though many of them have difficulty becoming certified in the busier environments.
I'm a bit conflicted on the whole issue. I don't want to see the changes toward the private sector but when I look around me where I work I see so much waste and areas where they could cut costs. We're very top heavy with management as with any government organization and that's a very difficult thing to get a hold on.
The argument you hear all the time is that the government just recently made baggage screeners federal employees but now they're talking about turning air traffic controllers loose. Where's the logic in that? The only logic is that it was all political and that the Bush administration didn't want for that to happen but it did.
There are good arguments for each side in the issue of privatization. My hope is that it doesn't happen. Kerry is not in support of it and so I suppose if I were voting my pocket book it would be a no brainer for me to vote for him but you know I also have other issues which concern me.
