As usual, our government can't look at any issue in any way other then black and white. I personally don't believe that people wanted prayer banned in schools, I think they just didn't want the schools to force their child to participate.
No one can stop anyone from praying anywhere, anytime. Why do some people believe that you have to make a "show" of it when you pray ? Prayer is personal and does not require any outward display of dogmatic spectacle.(IMHO)
Give the kids a moment to use as they see fit and they can quietly or silently practice whatever values that are taught in the home. heck, they can say extra prayers between classes or in the bathroom stall. You can converse with your God at anytime, in your head, without the usual "hey, look at me."
The law should have protected those who share different beliefs without removing the rights of others. If you wanna pray, pray, if you wanna say a different prayer then the rest, so be it.
The schools should teach a class that covers all religions , without predjudice so that the students are aware of what is out there. I never had anything like that in school or at home. As a young man I didn't know that you could tell a persons probable religious background by a name or a facial feature or what that might mean as far as stereotyping goes. In a way I think this was a good thing.
Why do they have to over complicate an issue like this ?
