Regarding your point that things were better when there was formal prayer in public schools. Hmm, I wonder why all that racial segregation was going on during that time? And gays were still in the closet? And why were women limited in terms of economic opportunities? If one buys your argument (and I most emphatically don't), then why weren't people treating each other with greater respect then in the good old days? Of course, if you were looking at things from a strictly white, male perspective, those were indeed the good old days! And as a white, male, I'm pleased to say "let's not turn back the clock"!
