You got me curious as to what might be on the web about Bando. Didn't get very far but found this really sweet story about it at http://www.surfnetkids.com/beethoven.htm

I know sweet isn't necessarily your shtick, but it struck a chord with me and I just wanted to thank you for sparking a quest.
