Icon An even stranger update to this story...and a reply to Dale...

All I can say is...wow! Dale says:

"I think we're on the same page, Reg. We should all be scared shitless."

It seems Dale is correct. Sort of. There really is nothing going on to make our borders more secure. I'm trying to understand why that is.

Here's the thing, not only did this guy have blood stained clothing, a bloody chainsaw, and a variety of other goodies mentioned in the article above but he also told the people who interviewed him some interesting things.

He told them he was a professional assassin.

He told them he had over 700 confirmed kills.

They also knew he was due in court on charges he threatened to kill someone when he was sitting there in front of them and he apparently confirmed this. They knew he was at the very least crossing the border to avoid his court date. Yet, they let him go.

My question to anyone still bothering to read this thread is; Who do you hold responsible for this and how far up the chain of command do you go to take corrective action? Meaning do you think this goes all the way to the president, Mr. Bush, or does the buck stop somewhere in that odd organization called Homeland Security? I would keep in mind when you answer that the official response to this ordeal was they could not detain him because he had not violated any laws or regulations at the time of the crossing. This means they are saying there was nothing in place to detain a person of such a questionable nature...so it was a failure of our system.

I guess the next question here would be then, how have so many been detained and removed from our country for "questioning" despite the fact that they too have no criminal history? These people are being held indefinitely yet have committed no crime, they are only suspects. Why would a character like this, an admitted assassin, not qualify to be detained? Or is somebody pulling the wool over our eyes?

I just think there is something here that does not add up. In fact there are a lot of things that don't add up when you examine this. How can we be 4 years removed from 9/11 and have done nothing to improve border security? How is border security not a priority even above whatever you'd like to believe about Iraq? I mean I thought the big fear, the big deal was we were attacked here...on US soil...right? This being the case you can tell them when you enter the country that you are an assassin with 700 kills and be admitted after they take your weapons away...regardless of the fact you are wearing blood stained clothing. John Cleese should be reading this aloud.

Combine this with the fact that now, after Bush has secured a second term, the Republicans want to dismantle the color coded alert system (which oddly enough you never hear about anymore now that the election is over) because they feel it's useless (I said this right off the bat) and only adds to the public fear and panic factor. They also want to loosen up some of the airport security restrictions, specifically in the DC area, because they think they are just a waste of time and in general a giant pain in the ass.

It makes you think that these folks who are supposedly far more informed than we are, due to all their daily briefings, don't really feel there is any sort of immediate terror threat on US soil...doesn't it? It also adds to the idea that we have been being terrorized by our own government officials.

Leading me to Dale's next comment:

"What really pisses me off is if they did detain him, because he looked suspicious, the ACLU would been all over this because the guys rights had been violated."

I don't know, Dale. In a time such as this the ACLU becomes an even more important organization than they were before. I mean they actually have important work to do right now. I would say destroying an organization like the ACLU would be one of the goals of those looking to create a fascist society. Knowing what we do right now about how this guy entered the country do you really think the ACLU would get involved to any great extent? I do find it interesting that one of the pillars of the right wing pundit's attacks is to destroy both the ACLU and the United Nations credibility. Both important in protecting human rights...maybe not perfect but what system or organization can you name that is? If both are destroyed many voices are silenced and left at the mercy of the merciless.
