Good point, the eavesdropping, without warrant or court order, can be used on anyone including political opponents, and although Nixon wasn't forced out of office for this, he was forced out of office for trying to get the FBI to not investigate the break-in.  Here we have an eavesdropping operation which the FBI probably does not have jurisdiction to even investigate, so go figure.  It's as though they've learned from the Nixon mistakes, and used 9/11 as justification to just about anything it wants.  In other words, "just do it" as Jack Cafferty of CNN says in this clip:
