" That war is not the answer,
That young men should not die,
Sit down young stranger, I wait for your reply"
"The answer is not easy, for souls are not reborn,
To wear the crown of peace, you must wear the crown of thorns". (Gordon Lightfoot from Sit Down Young Stranger)...sorry, I couldn't resist.
Sorry for that diversion, but it always pops into my head when war is spoken. What would I do? I don't think ANY serious effort at diplomacy nor dialogue has been put forth. Why not seriously sit down and talk to the man, and his cabinet? Better still, a series of talks..get to know the other side. Get rid of that fear and loathing US govern"mental" mentality. At the same time, while talks ensue, and let them take as long as possible/practical, keep up the inspections. Have the inspections been thorough or just window dressing so the hawks can throw up their hands, and move on to the war agenda, which is what they want anyways, it appears. Let the evidence show clearly that there is a nuclear or potentially catastrophic arsenal in the wings, before putting military pressure. And...keep talkin'; it's cheap, and it doesn't cost lives.
