1986 I was 16, just got my drivers licence,my first car (1975 VW Super Beetle),my first love (Shelley) who is inextricably tied to the album, and was discovering all sorts of music from Pet Sounds to Metallica's "Kill 'Em All", life was good.
As I recall I bought the album due to liking "Boomtown" so much on the radio. It instantly became a staple, with "Being Alone Together" quickly rising to the top for me, and "Ain't So Easy" for Shelley. She mistakenly (and hilariously) heard some of the lyrics as "you kiss my face,I'll tend to your eggs" and "you can ride my bike, forget the past" priceless stuff still.
As the years passed and my musical knowledge grew so did my appreciation for the album. The songwriting, David's vocals, the solid musicianship, and the production. "Boomtown" is in that hallowed place for me comfortably alongside Revolver and Imperial Bedroom for albums that are in constant rotation without sounding dated or overplayed.
