Landis is finito, IMHO.  2 Testosterone tests, both showing synthetic (not natural testosterone) at >11:1 titres.  The second test with confirmatory chromatography (or someother fancy biochemistry).  Steroids for hip pain, thyroid and beer won't do it, Floyd...and ya' know it.  How do you know when Floyd is lying?  Obviously, as soon as he opens his mouth.

Now, this begs the larger question. My hunch is that Lance Armstrong is also dirty, but slithered through somehow.  Why?  Because it's just too squeaky clean (sic) to win 7...count 'em SEVEN Tour de France(s), let alone back to back!  It doesn't seem humanly possible, does it?  And believe me, it ain't (probably).

My further hunch is....they're all (or most of 'em) are doing it, and there is a way/timecourse in which they can shoot and have a pretty good chance of the metabolite not being detected, either with a certain dosage, overhydrating etc...to minimize the chance of having the pee test come out positive.   We (you and I) won't know the ins and outs of this business, but they (the athletes) do know.  The ones who ride clean (if there are any) also know the ones who are dirty, but won't tell, for the most part.  And the ones who are dirty...ahem, know what they know.  Trouble is, with performance enhancers (steroids, speed, Viagra..you name it), once the kick takes hold, people feel they can't do what they used to do naturally without it.  I submit that if any of these athletes had used performance enhancing drugs even once...ever in their careers, they would not perform without the drugs ever again.

The real shame here is twofold.  One, the Tour de France will continue (in my mind) to have a tainted image.  Will the real "winner" ever win? Second, maybe the dopers could have won it clean anyways.

Finally, I'm sure not only the French citizens but the rest of the world are going to associate "dirty" rider, with Americans, so we're going to be held suspect for every future Tour, not that our world image is so great now anyways.

Fellow riders, chime in.

P.S. I continue to plod along, slowly but surely on my old road bike over the torturous hills of Frederick county (to me they seem like mountains).   I'm still hurting from this weekend's ride.  Give me some testosterone for chrissake!!!
