I loved McCartney's bass playing, although he picked it like a guitar, not the usual approach to bass....I suppose since he actually started on guitar and needed to make the switch to Bass to fill the need for Beatles. But, agree...love those signature lines he used in Rain, Paperback Writer. That pulsation quality was da' bomb.
They were my favorite group of all time, but I stopped listening to them after Magical Mystery Tour. They were no longer "magical" to me past that point. Here, I know I am very much in the minority, but the older the Beatles stuff, the more I liked it. My favorite Beatles material is the earliest stuff when they were doing pop tunes, and long before (long being a relative term here, by today's standards), they were doing the more trippy , involved theme materials. My hyperbola with them, nadired with Rubber Soul and Revolver (of course I loved Pepper, but I still love the mop top doo wop a lop dam boom...more so). And, I never bought and still don't have the White Album, Let it Be or Abbey Road (that just wasn't the Beatles sound I liked...and I was too destroyed by Hendrix, Cream and the like at that time).
Beatles 4 Ever!
