My recommendation would be to first string the guitar with nylon
strings. You can get a guy at the music store to do it for you.
Nylon strings hurt a lot less at first. Buy a Boss guitar tuner. Make
sure it has a mic. Then I say why bother with the hard stuff? Get a
book on open tunings... One of my favorites is open C... You can
hear that tuning on "Bitter Tree". With open tunings you can
literally start having fun immediately. No need to learn all those
pesky chords and scales until your hands are stronger and your
confidence is up. With open tunings you can build your finger
strength and callouses so it's not such a struggle to get the
instrument to make a decent sound when you start getting into
standard tuning.just my .02
