Those few among us with the urge to surge should take the time to read the above article. This is dense reading, so Pat may want to opt out, but Dale is certainly up to the task. I had to re-read many paragraphs to grasp all of the events and players. And I had already read Bernard Lewis' great book "What Went Wrong?-The Clash Between Islam and Modernity in the Middle East". To my mind, a greater slaughter lies ahead in Iraq, and there is nothing that we can do. There is nothing that a trained Iraqi army can do. Upon our exit, ancient feuds will boil over with greater intensity. When Harry Reid said that the war was lost, he was telling the truth.
