Does anyone have a repost of any news article summarizing Colin Powells statement that the U.S. will not cede control of rebuilding Iraq back to the U.N.?  If I'm not mistaken we exercised a major shift from our previous position which stated we would work under the U.N. auspices immediately after the "liberation" of Iraq.

I'd like to reread the article before commenting too much further but initial indications are beginning to make my blood boil.  Anyone who's read Chomsky's "The Washington Connection and Third World Facism" can see this thinly-veiled plot unfolding.

In short, it basically states that our concern for international human rights tend to disappear in favor of favorable business relations with third world countries.  It chronicles CIA involvement in overthrowing regimes antagonistic to U.S. business interests and teaching terroristic/repressive tactics to keep favorable leaders in power.  Whether you're for or against the war, hard right or hard left, becomes increasingly irrelevant.  If history is any indication, we are going to play god in this country and set up a dictator who may be as callous and bloodthirsty as his predecessor with one notable exception- he will be accomodating to U.S. business interests.  Perhaps this will be complete with the "death squads" and "torture tactics" to which David abashedly refers.

I strongly encourage anyone to read this book before deciding whether our current administration has a hidden agenda.  As I stated, this isn't a Republican/Democrat issue.  It's a question of long standing U.S. policy extending back to the Clinton era and even key members of the Carter administration.  The only key difference is the brazen and baldfaced nature to which this administration applies it- invading a nation and alienating half our allies in the process.
