See this is where you get to the heart of things. Pretty much you have to break it down to the phrase you want to say and what you want that phrase to communicate. I actually really like this topic because translating languages is at the heart of a lot of our...well...biblical mayhem let's say. You see in this case you are attempting to translate modern phrases from one modern language to another...it would seem simple but it's not. For instance there is no French word for "wingnut" at least if you are trying to use it to describe a person which is what you were doing. Also if your point was to say this guy is a great tennis player that likely has to be translated with that thought in mind, not to mention breaking things down according to a colloquialism. Imagine translating things from ancient dead languages to a modern language. Languages grow and mutate, words may mean one thing at one period of time but something completely different 50 years later. Sort of dovetails with Roger's "how the fuck can people believe the world is only 6000 years old" topic...
