Icon It may be mass hypnosis...

I know what you're saying Bear. It's an interesting story to watch in terms of media response because so many people in the media have reported this as she was trying to create a bomb scare and that's what she was doing at the airport. That's not even close to the truth but most people that hear the story or read it think she was looking for trouble.

The response on talk radio here was horrific. The majority of people on the number one talk radio show here in "liberal" Boston said they felt it would have been the right thing to do to shoot and kill this girl at the airport. The talk show host was even vile enough to say that because he thought she was fat and ugly she certainly should have been shot. The way the media participated in trying to turn this simple situation into a "terror plot" is a prime example of how our media can work against us in very dangerous ways.

That headline I included in my original post was a perfect example of a reporter trying to blow something up into propaganda designed to scare the pants off of people. The talk show guy here fanned the flames of how letting this girl live sends the wrong message to "the terrorists."

It was like observing an experiment in mass hypnosis as one person after another called and said "Yes, she should have been killed." I was very disturbed by this and kept trying to find ways to tell myself these people calling the show were talk radio nutjobs. I tried to call the show to provide some voice of reason because I could not believe there was a live radio show going out over the airwaves with the host and his callers basically saying we should have executed a young girl at the airport but I could not get through and this bothered me even more because nobody was telling the host how wrong he was or how insane it would have been if the girl was killed.

People in this country need to understand that America is more than land, buildings, and flags. It's an idea too and a terrorist can't kill an idea. Only Americans can kill that idea and you do that by poisoning it. If we start believing that in America it's ok to shoot people at the airport for wearing the wrong shirt then yes, we've killed this country. We'll still have our buildings and our cars and our flags and our hamburgers but there will be no America, no home of the brave, and no land of the free. If all America becomes is a "message to terrorists" then the message is they won.
