You're on quite a roll here, Gene...first Wilco has no balls and now the French are full of shit...did you guzzle that bottle of absinthe or something? I think the thing is the French like a good story where the main character suffers horribly in a self imposed Hell and it goes well with a pack of smokes. Americans just like drinking and Hell in general and the Canadians are like "Drinking is fun and goes with hockey, eh! What's all this stuff about Hell?" Is your tuque too tight?
