Icon There Will be Blood

I saw it last night with my wife and a couple of friends. I liked it a lot though my opinion wasn't shared by everyone else. I can't say that it lives up to the hype of being the new 'Citizen Kane', but it has a lot going for it. It has brilliant spots but doesn't quite hold together for its two and a half hour running time. The cinematography is great, and each shot seems to be well thought out. The acting is, of course, a main reason to see this film.... or let me say that Daniel Day Lewis is the reason to see this film. His performance is great.

Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood did the soundtrack, a strange amalgam of electronica, rhythm tracks, and oblique classical music. I liked it quite a lot but one of my friends said it drove her crazy and she didn't think it fit a story taking place at the turn of the twentieth century... which is probably exactly why I liked it so much.

I'd be curious to hear what other think. Oh, yeah... and there is blood.
