You're not alone; well maybe you are right now but others get the same feelings. A part of you is mourning the passing of America's greatness, sounds like, and that's worth a tear. But even America is just a ripple in the stream of the world. There were many greatnesses before America and there are future greatnesses we'll never see.

I don't think that's the biggest part of your hurt though. I think you're tired, maybe psychically, maybe spiritually, emotionally. You're a strong man but maybe you need a rest, need to write love songs and lullabies, make love while the skies go by (if I may be so bold). You need not to let the wickedness bother you so much right now.

The Black Dog visits me too once in a while but he always goes away after a while and he won't be at your door forever either.
