Why not try my favorite Country guy?
Chris Knight. Get his first album. They're all good, but the first one, to me, gets it just right.
I could only find one Youtube of an actual cut from the album. IMO, it is by no means the best song on the album, but it's solid. Here it is:

I also quite like Lyle Lovett's album "Pontiac," as well as several others.

Dwight Yoakum rocks, IMO.

There are lots of country artists that I enjoy. Here are a few more:
Diamond Rio

Ricochet

Big & Rich

And also lots of others like Cross Canadian Ragweed, and Mongomery Gentry, and . . . it just doesn't matter to me what genre a song comes from. Good songs are . . . good. And there are lots of ways in which a song could be good, whether it's to do with the message, or the harmonies, or the instrumentation, or whatever . . ..
The examples I posted above are not at all my favorite examples of these artists--they're just what I could find on YouTube on short notice.
In my opinion, there are lots of good Country artists, even if the radio often doesn't let us hear them.
